METAL: Non-traditional colorwork
Marilyn da Silva

ONLINE REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED. You may register in person at the first class (5:00 pm Friday 3/28).

ATTENTION: due to unexpected circumstances, Jack da Silva will not be teaching in this workshop. The anticlastic forming portion of the workshop has been cancelled.

Along with the original "color on metal" portion of the workshop, Marilyn will go into further depth by sharing with us her narrative process in her art. We will learn more about the development of individual imagery and design elements.

We will have the opportunity to do many experiments but will not have enough time to make finished pieces. Marilyn mentioned that "if people want to bring in finished work to color, that would be fine". The format has changed and we will no longer split into two groups.

In this workshop with Marilyn da Silva, students will experience discussions, technical demonstrations and examples, then apply hands on skills. Please refer to the supply list for any necessary materials and tools to bring to the workshop. Buying tools ahead of time is optional; there will be some tools available to share. It is recommended (not required) to texture the copper squares ahead of the workshop to save time. This workshop is suitable for beginners.

This is a three-day workshop, beginning Friday afternoon from 5:00 - 9:00 pm and continuing Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Marilyn da Silva is professor and Program Chair of the Jewelry/ Metal Arts Department at California College of the Arts in Oakland since 1987. Before moving to California, she taught from 1978-87 at Bowling Green State University. Marilyn has been a pioneer in alternative coloration on metal. She was selected as Master Metalsmith by the Metals Museum, Memphis, TN in 1999 and a Fellow of the American Craft Council in 2007. Marilyn’s work is represented in private collections in the USA and international collections including the National Gallery of Australia, in Canberra.
