CALL TO ARTISTS
The Hawaii Craftsmen 2014 Annual Statewide Juried Exhibition

Both members and nonmembers are welcome to submit work to be considered for this year’s exhibition, to be held at the Honolulu Museum of Art School (formerly known as Linekona). Jurying dates vary by island: Big Island Sept. 30, Maui Oct. 1, Kauai Oct.2, and Oahu Oct. 5. The exhibition will be open for viewing free to the public Friday October 10 through  November 1.

Artists are encouraged to enter traditional or non-traditional craft with a fresh
approach or point of view. The exhibition is open to functional and non-functional craft
objects in the categories of clay, fiber, glass, metal, mixed media, and wood. Awards of
Excellence with cash prizes will be selected by the juror and presented at the opening reception. All entries must be of original design and created independently within the last two years. No work previously shown in a juried exhibition is eligible.

We are excited to host Janet Koplos who is scheduled to be this year’s juror. She is a co-author of Makers: A History of American Studio Craft (2010) and author of Contemporary Japanese Sculpture (1990) and other books. She has written extensively on crafts and on American, Japanese and Dutch contemporary art and has published approximately 2,500 articles, reviews and essays in some two dozen periodicals over the last 30 years. She lectures, critiques and juries frequently, and has taught at Parsons The New School for Design and Pratt Institute in New York, the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence.

Further details shall be released in the prospectus and online at www.hawaiicraftsmen.org as well as in the Hawaii Craftsmen email newsletter. In addition we are seeking volunteers for a variety of exhibition based activities including intake, reception, and installation. Please contact Abi Good ASJE Chair with questions or to volunteer at Abigail.good@gmail.com
